Corporate History
January 1972 Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. established a new unsaturated polyester resin plant in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
February 1973 Toyobo Co., Ltd. established a new unsaturated polyester resin plant in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture.
October 1977 Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. and Toyobo Co., Ltd. merged their unsaturated polyester resin sales divisions and formed Japan U-Pica Company Ltd. The respective manufacturing divisions were established as independent companies Hiratsuka U-Pica Company and Inuyama U-Pica Company.
April 1982 Acquired unsaturated polyester resin division from Mitsubishi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (currently Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation), and integrated it into Japan U-Pica Company Ltd.
September 1982 Started doing business in powder coating resins (manufacturing at Inuyama U-Pica Company).
December 1986 Started doing business in methacrylic esters, built production facility for the same at Hiratsuka U-Pica Company.
April 1988 Japan Premix Company was established for the production of sheet molding compound (SMC) in Kani-gun, Gifu Prefecture.
August 1990 Mine Factory newly built in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture for the production of unsaturated polyester resins and powder coating resins.
April 1991 Japan U-Pica acquired both Hiratsuka U-Pica and Inuyama U-Pica. Hiratsuka U-Pica named Shonan Factory and Inuyama U-Pica named Inuyama Factory.
April 1993 Technology and facilities transferred from Toyobo Co., Ltd. started doing business in polyester dry-type molding compounds.
October 1993 New laboratory building built in Hiratsuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
November 1994 Publicly offered company stock by over-the-counter trading.
March 1996 Expanded unsaturated polyester resin and powder coating resin production capacity at Mine Factory and added a new line for methacrylic esters at same factory.
June 2000 Expanded methacrylic ester production capacity at Mine Factory.
June 2000 Acquired ISO 9002 certification for Mine Factory.
October 2001 Acquired ISO 14001 certification for Mine Factory.
June 2003 Acquired ISO 9001:2000 certification for Shonan Factory, Mine Factory, and Technical Research Center.
August 2007 Established joint-venture company U-Pica Resin (Changshu) Co., Ltd. in China.
August 2010 Acquired Biomass Mark certification for BIOMUP®, an unsaturated polyester resin derived from biomass-materials.
October 2014 Launched sales of CBZ®, a thermosetting resin for carbon fiber-reinforced plastics.
January 2018 Concluded licensing agreement for CBZ with ARMA Architectural Materials Srl in Italy.
March 2020 Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. conducted TOB for the Company's shares.
July 2020 Delisted from Tokyo Stock Exchange's JASDAQ Standard section.
October 2022 Terminated production and sales by U-Pica Resin (Changshu) Co., Ltd.
March 2023 Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. acquired all shares of the Company held by Toyobo Co., Ltd., making the Company a wholly-owned subsidiary.
November 2023 Closed Kyushu Sales Office
